The Headstock 500 Route
The Headstock 500 is a challenging 500km (ish) route that will take you through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the UK. With over 11,000m of ascent, you’ll conquer the Black Mountains, Cambrian Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park.
The route is divided into three equal sections, strategically planned around main resupply points in Abergavenny, Knighton, Rhayader, and Llandovery. These points not only offer opportunities for riders to restock their supplies but also provide travel options in case participants need to withdraw early. Additionally, accommodation options such as camping, hotels, and B&Bs are available at these points, ensuring comfort and safety in case the weather turns sour. As we all know, Wales can be unpredictable, and while it is one of the most beautiful parts of the UK (especially when the sun is shining), conditions can change quickly.
To support our riders throughout their journey, we have arranged two checkpoints along the 500km route. These checkpoints will serve as feed stations offering water, high 5 nutrition, and a variety of sweet and savory snacks. We understand the importance of catering to different dietary requirements, which is why our offerings will accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. The cost of entry covers these amenities, ensuring that participants have all the sustenance they need at checkpoints when shops might be closed.
As a self-supported event, riders are required to carry all their own kit and supplies. To enhance the safety of all participants, our event will use GPS trackers and event mapping. These trackers not only help us monitor the progress of each rider but also allow friends and family to follow their journey.
Please note that due to the remoteness of certain areas along the route, there will be mandatory kit that all participants must carry. We will provide detailed information about this in our event guide, which will be available after the entry period closes in March 2024.
We are thrilled to bring you the Headstock 500, the first of its kind in South East Wales. This event promises to be an unforgettable and enjoyable experience, showcasing the beauty and challenges of the Welsh countryside. Join us on this incredible journey.
The Headstock 200 Route
For those seeking a shorter but equally thrilling challenge, we now offer the Headstock 200 route. Following the same path as the 500km route up to the Black Mountains, this 200km (ish) route will then divert into the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park before rejoining the last section of the 500km route. The Headstock 200 promises an unforgettable adventure that can be tackled as a day or multi day event and serves as a stepping stone to the 500km route.
Similarly to the 500km route, the 200km option will include a checkpoint that serves as a feed station offering water, high 5 nutrition, and a variety of sweet and savory snacks. These are included in the cost of your entry.
What is included?
As part of the event, you’ll receive fully insured coverage (personal insurance required), GPX files, an event map and tracking. You’ll also receive an event pack, have access to checkpoints and feed stations, and receive event goodies. The start and finishing venue will be conveniently located.
