THE HEADSTOCK 500 ROUTE
Entries for the 2024 Edition of the Headstock 500 are now closed. The event will return during the late May bank holiday in 2025.
The Headstock 500 is a challenging 500km (ish) route that will take you through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the UK. With over 11,000m of ascent, you’ll conquer the Black Mountains, Cambrian Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park.
The route is strategically planned around the main resupply points of Abergavenny, Talgarth, Knighton, Rhayader, Llanwrtyd Wells and Llandovery. These points not only offer opportunities for riders to restock their supplies but also provide travel options in case participants need to withdraw early. Additionally, accommodation options such as camping, hotels, and B&Bs are available at these points, ensuring comfort and safety in case the weather turns sour. As we all know, Wales can be unpredictable, and while it is one of the most beautiful parts of the UK (especially when the sun is shining), conditions can change quickly.
To support our riders throughout their journey, we have arranged two checkpoints along the 500km route. These checkpoints will serve as feed stations offering water, high 5 nutrition, and a variety of sweet and savory snacks. We understand the importance of catering to different dietary requirements, which is why our offerings will accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. The cost of entry covers these amenities, ensuring that participants have all the sustenance they need at checkpoints when shops might be closed.
As a self-supported event, riders are required to carry all their own kit and supplies. To enhance the safety of all participants, our event will use GPS trackers and event mapping. These trackers not only help us monitor the progress of each rider but also allow friends and family to follow their journey.
Please note that due to the remoteness of certain areas along the route, there will be mandatory kit that all participants must carry. We will provide detailed information about this in our event guide which is issued after the entry period closes.
